Exploring Little Free Libraries by Cargo Bike: A Christiania Adventure
There’s no such thing as a “quick ride around the block” when you’ve got a Christiania bike, a kid up front, and a street full of Little Free Libraries. What starts as a casual cruise turns into a full-blown literary treasure hunt—minus the map.

On a recent ride, Olaf—my very enthusiastic co-pilot and self-appointed librarian—insisted we stop at every single box we passed. Each stop came with a full book report (“This one looks spooky. Let’s not.”) and a swap (“Let’s leave this one. It has a dragon AND a sword.”). The front seat quickly turned into a bookmobile, snack bar, and editorial desk all in one.

That’s the joy of riding a Christiania bike—easy on-and-offs, tons of room for spontaneous finds, and perfect for neighborhood missions like Operation: All the Books. We didn’t cover many miles that day (we didn't leave the neighborhood), but we did collect four new reads and donate two old favorites. A successful outing, by any measure.

So if you’ve got a little reader with big opinions (and a short attention span), may we suggest:
➤ One Christiania bike
➤ One neighborhood full of libraries
➤ Zero plans whatsoever
Just make sure there’s room in the box for books and snacks. Always snacks.
