Our Unexpected Connection to Lukas Graham

Our Unexpected Connection to Lukas Graham

Copenhagen → Venice Beach → Santa Cruz

With Danish pop star Lukas Graham getting ready to release his new album, Good Times, on August 14, we found ourselves reminiscing about our random connection to the singer!

If you know Lukas Graham from songs like “7 Years,” “Love Someone,” or “Drunk in the Morning,” you may also know that Lukas grew up in Freetown Christiania, the famously unconventional community in the heart of Copenhagen (and of course birthplace of Christiania Bikes). Christiania played a big role in shaping Lukas and his music. He has talked often about the community spirit he grew up with there and how it influenced the way he sees the world and creates music. So when Lukas Graham filmed the official music video for Drunk in the Morning in California, it was so awesome to see Christiania bikes featured in it.

Directed by Marc Klasfeld and filmed around the Venice Beach Boardwalk, the video follows Lukas and company cruising around on cargo bikes, all different models! A couple of years later, Warner Bros. contacted us and asked if we would like the Christiania bikes featured in the video. So Peter flew down to Los Angeles, rented a U-Haul, loaded up the bikes, and drove them to Santa Cruz. And that's how a Christiania bike that had appeared in a Lukas Graham music video ended up with a second career as our business bike, hauling merchandise between Artisans & agency stores.

A bike created in an experimental little community in Copenhagen, ridden through Venice Beach in a pop star's music video, picked up in a U-Haul, and then put to work moving stuff around Santa Cruz. Not exactly the usual celebrity memorabilia story, but maybe that's why we love it so much. Christiania bikes were made to be useful — to carry musicians or kids, groceries, tools and whatever else needed moving through a community.

Lukas Graham's new album is called Good Times and on song on the album is “Freetown Road,” which feels pretty fitting for someone whose music has always been closely tied to where he came from. In a recent interview, Lukas talked about growing up in Christiania and how its communal spirit still influences the way he works today. The new album arrives August 14, 2026. And if you're watching the “Drunk in the Morning” video, keep an eye on those bikes. A couple of them eventually found their way north to Santa Cruz!
